Mangaluru: Karavali Utsav to be held from Jan 23 to 31

Mangaluru, Jan 22:The annual Karavali Utsav 2016 will be held from January 23 to 31 in the city, informed B Ramanath Rai, district incharge minister here at a press meet held at the circuit house on Friday, January 22.



Addressing the media Rai said "Procession comprising of teams of artists will proceed from Kadri park to Karavali utsav ground in Lalbagh on January 23 at 4 pm. Thereafter exhibition will be inaugurated at 6 pm and stage programme will be held followed by the inauguration at 6.30 pm,"

A platform will be provided to perform traditional folk dance, arts, rural games and traditional food items to promote the art and culture of the coastal region. This year the main stage will be used by the district and state-level artistes to showcase their expertise.

As part of the event, the administration will also organize Beach Utsav on January 30 and 31 comprising dance competition, singing, and beach volleyball. Other than these, national angling competition will also be conducted for the first time.

District level weight lifting competition will be organized on January 27 and 28 at town hall. About 28 teams and 200 participants are expected to take part in this competition. Along with this food festival will be organized on January 23 evening at 3.45 pm at Old Deer park in Kadri. Regional and traditional food items will be the attraction of this food fest.

Committee has been formed to nominate the eligible candidates for Karavali honourary awards. Awards will be given away on January 26.

Mayor Jecintha Vijay Alfred, Shashidar Hegde, Gokuldas Nayak, Pradeep Kalkurura and others were present.
