Sullia: Student electrocuted when plucking areca nut

Sullia, Jan 23: A student was electrocuted at Aivarnadu in the taluk on Friday January 21 when he was plucking ripe areca nut from trees.

Keertan (17), son of Kudumbu Parameshwar Naik, a resident of Aivarnadu village, met with this tragic end. He was a student of Aivarnadu government PU College.

On Friday, Keertan had climbed an areca nut tree in the plantation located in front of his house, and was harvesting ripe areca nut bunches from the tree with the help of a hook tied to an alluminium rod, when he lost his grip. He fell down along with the bunch of areca nuts on the electric cables, and got electrocuted. His body then slipped down to the ground.

A case about this unnatural death was registered by the town police station here. Keertan is survived by parents and two sisters.
