Puttur: Woman drowns in river unnoticed

Puttur, Jan 23: A woman drowned in Kumaradhara river near Arelatady, Paltady, on Friday January 22, No one had noticed this accident and as such, no effort to rescue her could be made.

Saramma (54), a resident of Attole in Savanur was the lady who met watery grave in this incident. She had told her neighbours that she was on a visit to the house of her relatives living at Atoor, and that she would undertake journey from Areltady onward by country boat. But she did not reach the home of her relatives.

After the locals got to know that Saramma had not reached the place of her relatives, they came near the river and conducted search. They found that a plastic bag and footwear were floating in the river. Further searches by divers succeeded in recovering her body.

It is suspected that Saramma would have accidentally lost balance and fallen into the river. She is survived by a son. A case of accidental death was registered in Kadaba police station.
