Bantwal: Lad drowns in River Netravati at Maindala

Bantwal, Jan 25: Abdul Manaf (16), son of A Muhammed and Rukiya couple from Maindala drowned in River Netravati at Maindala in Navoor village on Sunday January 24. He was a tenth standard student of SVS high school here.

As he had spare time, Sunday being the weekly holiday for his school, Munaf had gone with two of his friends to swim in River Netravati. He suddenly got caught in deep pocket of the river and was dragged by undercurrent. His friends,who watched their friend getting washed away helplessly, rushed to the river bank and raised an alarm.

Locals came running to the rescue of the boy, jumped into the river, and succeeded in bringing Munaf to the bank. The boy however, had lost his life by then, it is gathered.

The mortal remains were then taken to the government hospital here. Postmortem was conducted. A case was registered in rural police station here about this tragic incident.
