Mangaluru: Kasargod and Manjeshwar MLAs should resign - Rahim Uchil

Mangaluru, Feb 6: "Kasargod is and will be a part of Karnataka for ever. The two MLAs of Manjeshwar and Kasargod who did not raise their voice for the Kannadigas there should resign at once," said Karnataka Rakshana Vedike spokesman Rahim Uchil.

Uchil was speaking in a road block protest held by Karnataka Rakshana Vedike at Talapady on Saturday, February 6 opposing the amendment to Kerala Official Languages Act, 1969, which makes Malayalam the sole language of communication in government offices and official documents and circulars. The amendment has been passed in the Kerala Assembly and is awaiting the governor's nod.

“The Kerala government which is all out to destroy Kannada language in Kasargod has come forward to question the importance of Kannadigas. Kannadigas in Kasargod are not orphans. Five crores people of Karnataka are with them. They will fight till death to preserve the identity of Kannadigas. The politicians have asked for vote in Kannada during elections. But the MLAs are unable to raise their voice now that Malayalam language bill is being passed. More than one lac people will go for intense protests if the bill is passed," he warned.

Kannada schools will have to be closed: "The 1969 Act gives people freedom to use their own languages. However, as per the bill passed by Kerala state government in December, 2015, all the people in the state have to compulsorily use Malayalam language. With that, 192 Kannada medium schools in Karnataka and Kerala border and nearly 11,400 school students in them will have no future. The files related to land meant to be used in the court are also in Malayalam, which will cause a lot of hardship, said teacher Sadashiva Rao.

Nearly 100 activists of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike blocked NH66 in Talapady. The police tried to pacify them and later detained them.

District president Anil Das, Nazir Hussain Bengre, Udupi district president S R Lobo, Sudesh Shet, Sumasoodana Gowda, Ashok, Subbayya, N A Hamza, Arun Kumar, Musir Ahmed, Rajesh, Jaleel, Moidin and others were present.

Kerala govt. is committing gross injustice by closing down Kannada schools. At least educational institutions must be allowed to function in the existing languages for the sake of native children. Even in other border districts like Belgaum in Karnataka and Kolhapur in Maharashtra, there are both Kannada and Marathi schools in these areas. What will be the future of those children who can't afford to attend English medium schools or those who want to study in their native language?

Who told you this? No one is closing Kannada school in Kasaragod. The bill states that Kannada students should be allowed to learn Malayalam along with their mother tongue ie Kannada....No where it states that Kannada schools will be closed!

Actually udupi- Mangalore-kasaragod region is neither part of Kerala or Karnataka ...It is part of tulunadu...Kannadigas should be happy local tulu population has neglected their own language and script and accepted Kannada...there is so much similarity with food ,clothing and culture between tulunadu and norther half of Kerala...Script of Malayalam is borrowed from tulu...If you look at them they are quite similar...Unfortunately local tulu people have neglected their own script and language and tulunadu is now bifurcated between Kerala and Karnataka...

Here Kerala govt is forcibly closing Kannada Medium schools and making Kannada mother tongue people to become Malayalaees. Please remember these are not migrants but people who have been there for generations. For you to pass such insensitive comment is very bad.

Kasaragod, despite being in Kerala state, you can see many signboards of important offices and places written in Kannada. However, not a single name board of any Govt offices you can find written in Malayalam in the border city Mangalore.

I would say it is a good move of Kerala Govt implementing the state language Malayalam through out the state.

There is a logical error in your understaning... when kasargod itself is part of karnataka (lets say), Maonglore wont become border district. Kasargod will become karnataka border and kannur will be kerala border.. Mangalore will be so far away from boarder.. why malayalam sign boards then?
