Mangaluru, Feb 11: An inter-collegiate commerce fest 'Padua Verve-2016' was inaugurated at Padua college premises on Thursday, February 11.
Famous Coastalwood comedian Naveen D Padil inaugurated the fest by lighting the lamp and editor-in-chief of Daijiworld, Walter Nandalike inaugurated the competitions.
When it was the turn for Naveen D Padil to address the gathering there was uproar from the gathering to welcome him. He started his speech with the recent famous dialogue of 'Ekka Sakka' film, "Yeregavye kirikiri Varshapoorthi Odhunu. Undhu Ragale ijji, Nalipunu thelipunu",( Who wants to study the whole year ? This is better, dancing and laughing) indirectly quoting students who had come to showcase their talents.
"You have come here to get educated with religious harmony. We need to teach the good values to our children as well. I feel sad when I speak about Mangaluru. We have a very short lifespan which we sometimes use for hatred towards others. We need to spread love and knowledge among all. Only then our 'Kudla' (Mangaluru) can regain its old status. I struggled to clear SSLC and took up dramatics for my bed and butter. But all of you have the opportunity to study and I request you all to give your best to it and use the 'Moorkhara Pettige (mobile phone) with limits and dedicate your time for good things." Padil said.
Padil also remembered his attachment to the college premises during his initials days in drama. Later he entertained the audience through few of his famous dialogues.
Guest of honour Walter Nandalike in his address recalled his college days and said “Today if stand amidst you on this dais, it is because of my days at St Mary's college, Shirva two decades ago. Education gave me everything. We did not these kinds of fests when we were students, but we had plenty of extracurricular activities. Famous inspirational writer Robin Sharma writes that 'The day you stop taking risks, you stop living the life'. Tomorrow, if you become business persons or whatever profession you embrace, taking risks becomes an integral part of your life. To be honest there nothing like risk-free life in reality. I wish you all the best for the wonderful career. I thank the organizers for giving me an opportunity to speak to students."
The programme was presided over by the correspondent of the college Fr Antony Serrao. In his presidential address Fr Antony said "This is an occasion to showcase your talents. Let us work together to spread happiness among one another. The intention of the fest is to give a platform for the talents. I pray that God blesses all of you abundantly."
Principal of the college Fr Alwyn Serrao welcomed the gathering while student co-ordinator of the fest Dixon Machado thanked. Vice principal of the college Roshan Santhumayor, staff co-ordinator Akshatha, president of the student council Leon Saldanha were present.
