Mangaluru, Feb 17: Imagine being able to control an electrical appliance from your phone. A group of enterprising youths from the city has developed an innovative plug that can control your appliances, and set timers to switch them on or off while you are away!
A Mangaluru-based startup, Axndx Technologies Pvt Ltd, has come up with a unique consumer product called Xenon SmartPlug which is a bluetooth low energy powered extension for your power outlet that can be controlled with an Android app on your smart phone.
All you need to do is connect it to a power outlet and plug in any typical appliance, turn the switch on, download the app on your phone and control it wirelessly. You can set schedules for when you want the connected appliance to switch on/off when you are away. Another important feature is Smart Charging, using which you can set the charging on/off limits for your smart phone and not worry about it overcharging when kept for overnight charging.
The plug also lets you know about the electricity saved in hours after using it for a period of time. The SmartPlug has a tiny computing unit in it consisting of Bluetooth 4.0 chip and other sensors that work together in helping you save electricity and put those rupees back in your pocket.
The startup, consisting of Prithviraj Shetty, Fenil Mehta, Rohan Shetty and Lenson Saldanha, has been working on the product for almost a year and after overcoming the difficulties of manufacturing in India they have now launched it into the market. Xenon SmartPlug is fully designed and developed by them in Mangaluru and manufactured in Bengaluru. The makers have plans for other useful devices that they plan to launch in the future.
