Mangaluru: Elderly lady crushed to death by tourist vehicle at Kolya

Mangaluru, Feb 17: An elderly lady met a gruesome death when she was run over by a speeding tourist vehicle at Kolya under Ullal police limits here on Wednesday February 17.

Nagamma (70), wife of the late Mohan Poojary, a resident of Saraswatikumeru, Kolya, died on the spot after she was hit by the vehicle while crossing the road with her daughter.

Nagamma and her daughter had been to Ombattukere to attend a relative's programme. While returning, she wanted to drop her daughter on the way leading towards Kasargod. The mother and the daughter were crossing the roa on national higway 66 when a tourist vehicle coming from Kerala rammed into Nagamma, crushing her to death. Nagamma had held on to her daughter's hand while crossing.

Nagamma leaves behind three daughters and a son.

Even at the age of 70, Nagamma was active and working at Summer Sands. As she had to attend a relative's programme, she took a day off from work.

Ullal police have registered a case.

    So sad. May the soul of Nagamma RIP. Drivers should be careful while driving on highways. They should control their speed. Right now we do not know why the driver crashed into this elderly lady who was crossing the road along with her daughter.

    Vera sad.and for the daughter it is still a shock to see mother in front of her eyes just crushed under vehicle.One should be very careful by crossing a National Highway.sametime a crossing Zebra line or a Underground way for People to go otherside.Even vehicles should not just rush with high Speed than noted.May her Soul rest in peace,heartfelt sympathy to the Family.I feel when Driver had put a sudden brake ,would cause big accident with following cars?(that doesnt mean what he did was right)dont know the Situation.

    It is very sad to see that an elderly womans death is being used to score political points. What is the difference between you and the politicians who you are criticising? Reminds me of trying to light cigerette from the funeral fire.

    Sad indeed Accidents happen in afratcion of a second All vehicles msut avoid riding at high speed Otherwise many such unwanted incidences might happen. I feel since highway has become smooth now there should be places for people to crow with zebra lines ar regular points and speed breakers I feel very sad when I hear some oen dying in an accident like this

    Kusuma K.Nellore,usually on high ways no Speed breakers can be used.Because it is a Highway. speed breakers are used mostly in School Areas or in City area.Instead on Highways a Underground passage to cross can be arranged ,or a overbridge is helpful.Sometimes People too are not following the rules,walk like as they want.Here is govt,mistake for not providing necessary footpath to the public.
