Mandya, Feb 18 : The war of words, intended to win the elections, have become too personal for former chief minister and JD(S) leader Kumaraswamy and actor and former MP Ramya in Mandya district. The verbal spat between the two during the election campaigns here, has ended with both of them hurling a torrent of abuses against each other.

It all started when Kumaraswamy claimed that Ramya’s entry into the district has led to the rise in farmer suicides. Kumaraswamy had said during his campaign in the district recently that more than 100 farmers ended their lives after the Congress came to power and Ramya stepped into the district. “Do not get cheated by the colourful speeches made by film stars,” Kumaraswamy had said in his speech.

Reacting to this, Ramya said that Kumaraswamy too is a film producer. She went a step further by saying “Kumaraswamy should remember that his wife Radhika and his son are also actors. How can he disrespect artistes like this? "

Ramya also said that "Kumaraswamy wears a gold watch at home and ordinary watch in public." obviously making a reference to his complaints about chief minister Siddaramaiah wearing an expensive watch.

Kumaraswamy did not keep quiet. Replying to Ramya’s statement, he said he was not disrespecting any artistes but was specifically talking about Ramya.

“Has Ramya come to my home to see whether I am wearing gold watch? Why does she speak about Radhika? It is a personal matter. Let Ramya tell the world what she was doing in London? She should be careful while speaking about others’ personal lives." said Kumaraswamy replying about the watch issue. He too went a step further this time.

Ramya who could not be silenced spoke to media on Wednesday and said “The same JD(S) party, which Kumaraswamy belongs to, had raised questions about my personal life, when I was actually mourning the death of my father. They continued their attack even after my victory. Now, Kumaraswamy’s statements about farmers’ death has hurt me deeply,”

"I was in London to study. Let Kumaraswamy explain why he goes to Sri Lanka every now and then? I have the answers and also know to speak. My life is like an open book and I am not involved in any wrongdoing. I do not fear anyone and speak only the truth. I have visited Radhika’s house and know that Kumaraswamy wears gold watch. He owns Hummer, Audi and BMW cars, but speaks about others’ watches. Is it right? “Ramya questioned.

What Kumaraswamy wants to reply to this? Only he knows. Meanwhile ZP, TP election campaigns continue.
