Bengaluru, Feb 19: N Harish (32), an IPS officer hailing from Malur in Kolar district died at Chennai under mysterious circumstances on Thursday February 18. He was serving the vigilance and anti-corruption directorate of Tamil Nadu government.

The mortal remains of Harish, who was a 2009 batch IPS officer, were found from IPS Officers Mess located at Egmore, Chennai.

People who were close to Harish said that the IPS officer had failed to clear the mandatory examination in Tamil language, on account of which he had been stagnated in the rank of assistant superintendent of police, being ineligible for promotion on account lack of Tamil language skills. It is said that having failed to get promotion for the last seven years,and the feeling of frustration at the promotion of all his colleagues were playing heavily on his mind. There are others who say he had differences with his higher officials and that he had exchange of heated words with them, and he was suspended once.

One of his friends said that Harish was determined and mentally tough. He was always ahead in studies and had an inborn concern and care for the downtrodden.He insisted that Harish was not mentally fragile and hence the theory of suicide may not be true.

Harish's marriage had been fixed for March 19 and 20 at Bengaluru with a girl from Hoskote, who happens to be a distant relative.After serving at Madurai for long,Harish had been transferred to Chennai recently. Although he belonged to Malur, he was staying at Manjunathanagara in the city with parents. His father,Nagaraj, who was working for revenue department at Hoskote,had retired a few months back.

Some sources said that Harish ended his life because of a love failure.

The cause of death is not yet known. As per some sources, he committed suicide and was found hanging. But some other sources said that he died of heart attack. Post mortem to be held on Friday will reveal the cause.

Harish is said to be a batch mate of D K Ravi, an IAS officer who died mysteriously in March 2015.
