Bengaluru, Feb 19: Karnataka governor, Vajubhai Vala refused permission to prosecute Siddaramaiah for the alleged irregularities committed while denotifying land meant for Arkavathi Layout in the city.

The governor had been approached seeking permission to proceed against the chief minister by Ramamurty Gowda, convener of Human Rights Protection and Corruption Eradication Organization. The governor disposed off the application made on June 15 last year by rejecting it.

The letter of the governor addressed to the petitioner has clarified that the complaint is unclear in nature and that it is not supported by necessary and enough evidences and documents to prima facie prove the irregularity alleged therein, which are necessary to take steps against the concerned. Therefore,the governor said, he has rejected the application'

After widespread allegations surfaced relating to alleged denotifications of several stretches of land out of the the area earmarked for proposed Arkavathi Layout project, the state government had set up a single member inquiry commission headed by retired high court judge, Justice H S Kempanna, in August 2014. In the meantime, Ramamamurty approached the governor for permission to move against the chief minister, and the governor has now refused to accede to his request.
