Mangaluru, Feb 20: A youth was caught by locals and handed over to police after he allegedly molested two girls, one of them a minor, near Moodijera cross close to the administrative block of Mangalore University in Konaje here on Friday February 19.
The accused, identified as Khaleel (21), a resident near Malar mosque, has been arrested and booked under POCSO Act.
On Friday evening, a 15-year-old girl, after returning from school, went to the beedi branch at Malar to deliver a package of beedies. On the way back, when she reached Moodijera cross, Khaleel came from behind and embraced her with a tight grip. The frightened girl screamed and managed to free herself and escaped.
A while later, he saw a 21-year-old girl passing by the same road and tried to outrage her modesty after grabbing her hand. When the girl began screaming for help, the locals rushed to her rescue, caught hold of Khaleel and handed him over to Konaje police.
Following the incident, tension prevailed at the spot for sometime as crowds began to gather.
A case has been registered in Konaje police station.
