Bantwal: Prabha murder - Aus police investigating if someone from India was involved

Bantwal, Feb 21: The murder of IT consultant Prabha Arun Kumar in Sydney, Australia last year continues to baffle the Australian police, who are now looking into the possibility of the involvement of someone from India in her death.

The 41-year-old IT consultant from Amtoor here was stabbed to death while walking through Parramatta Park on March 7 last year.

She was talking on her mobile phone to her husband in Bengaluru at the time of her death.

Despite a complex investigation over the last 12 months that included questioning of around 2,000 people and gathering of almost 250 statements, the killer still remains at large, and now the detectives are looking into possibility of someone known to Prabha, and living in India, being involved in her death.

The CCTV images of Prabha''s final moments show her walking out of the western Sydney station while talking to on the phone to her husband Arun. As she neared her home, an unidentified person stabbed her in the throat.

"We have considered the possibility that an offender had [helped commit or been involved with] this crime outside of Australia," Detective Sergeant Ritchie Sim told Fairfax Media.

"There is no information that we are know of that indicates she knew who the attacker was," Sergeant Sim said.

"We are considering the possibility that the offender is still in Australia as well as the possibility the offender has left Australia," he added.

The police have not found the murder weapon either.

Last November, Prabha''s family, including her parents, husband and daughter, travelled to Sydney for a service in Prabha''s honour, during which a memorial plaque in Parramatta Park was unveiled. During their stay in Australia, her family members were extensively questioned, which helped the police to piece together aspects of her life.

The CCTV captured an unidentified figure walking through the Parramatta Golf Course on the night of March 7, but the image is unclear.

Detectives have ruled out sexual assault and robbery as motives behind the murder.

"Because Prabha was an Indian National, the geographical distance between our two countries is an obstacle," Sergeant Sim said, adding, "We will continue to work closely with our colleagues in India to achieve the common goal of finding the person or people responsible for this crime."

I totally agree with you. How come the murderer following Prabha while she was talking to her husband.
Police with the help of CCTV should find out, whether the murderer was on the telephone too before the murder as the murderer was following Prabha.

Lie detector test definitely may lead to some clue.

IN INDIA POLICE THINKING THEY CAN DO ANYTHING AS THEY WANT. THEY ARE VERY GOOD TO PUT FIRE BETWEEN THE PROBLEMS, I MEAN THEY PLAY BOTH SIDE. NO NEED TO PANIC IN ANY WAYS. WE TOO CAN PULL POLICE IF THEY DON`T FOLLOW THEIR DUTIES ACCORDINGLY. it is a money making team. SAD INCIDENT.

This was my thought from the beginning when the motive of the murder was neither sex nor money. Why would someone wait for her to walk through that park which would be deserted at that time of the day? There are people who knows her routine, like the colleagues for example. She might have complained or indirectly responsible for someone to loose their job or some other work related incidents. Even someone back in India have problems with her or her family and saw her in Australia and knew that no one will doubt them if she was murdered in Australia and the case will be closed as racial attack. I still remember that Sikh who poured petrol on his car, set it to fire and sat inside and claimed that some youths did it only to find out he did that to get money from the insurance company. There are people who takes advantage of the situation and nothing should be neglected to find the culprit.

Why not give a chance to a successful Police Officer of CCB, Bengaluru or Mangaluru, to investigate the case, in co-ordination with Australian Police?

This is the apt way to 'wash the hands' of the case. The case is handed over to the Indian Police and then will flow down to the Karnataka police. Kaluburgi's muderer is still at large and the cops are clue less even after 4 months. How will the cops solve a murder that has happened in Australia. Current status 'investigation is on till people forget'.

I hope the Australian police will solve this case as soon as possible. It is almost a year that Prabha was murdered and the killer is still at large. It is an anguish moment for her parents and loved ones. They will not have peace till the killer is caught and justice is served to her loved ones especially her parents.
