Mangaluru: Post- delivery complications, woman breathes last

Mangaluru, Feb 22 : A woman lost her life on Sunday, February 21, due to post- delivery complications.

Geetha Gatti (32) , wife of Sunil Gatti from Kodambettu near Bantwal, is the person deceased. She is survived by husband and three daughters including the newborn.

As per reports, Geetha was admitted in a private hospital at B C Road where she delivered the baby girl on Sunday. But due to post-delivery complications, there was heavy bleeding which could not be stopped at the hospital.


Geetha was rushed to  Lady Goshen hospital in Mangaluru where she could not be admitted as there was no intensive care unit (ICU) room available. Then she was taken to Wenlock hospital. Thought the medical staff at Wenlock hospital tried their best to save her, she breathed her last before any procedure could be initiated.

Some family members said that the deceased had a heavy bleeding on her way from B C Road to Mangaluru and there was no proper arrangement in the ambulance to treat her.

    In B.C.Road we don't have hospital. Govt hospital as usual pathetic. Couple of private hospitals are there lack of good doctors, business oriented. This is not 1st time these kind of incident or negligence from hospital. Doctors should held responsible.

    A very sad incident whereby a woman lost her precious life due to lack of medical facilities in the ambulance and no beds in ICU in the hospital. May the soul of Geeta Rest in Eternal Peace and deepest sympathies to her bereaved families and loved ones.

    please note there are 2000 merit seats for MBBS. rest are paid seats . does any government have the guts to change this system? anyway this death has nothing to do with that. most common cause is DIC a lethal complication post delivery.

    I WONDER IF THERE IS AN HOSPITAL IN BC RD AREA IN THE TRUE SENSE OF THE TERM, AT THE MOST THEY CAN BE CALLED 'NURSING HOMES'???

    WONDER WHETHER IT IS SAME 'HOSPITAL' WHERE A COUPLE OF DEATHS DUE THE SIMILAR REASON HAVING OCCURRED!!

    TODAY ONE CAN SEE A MULTITUDE OF CONSULTANTS OPENED SHOPS IN BC RD, EACH WITH A BIG LIST OF DEGREES IN FACT, THEY COULD FAST OUTNUMBER THE PAN/BEEDI SHOPS OUT THERE!! JAI BC RD!!!!

    Hospital and no ICU??? Anyone would laugh hearing this.
    It is pathetic that no facility is available in the ambulance.I have experienced this when an ambulance was called in to take my father to the hospital as, it was a real emergency. I will not say anything about the condition of the ambulance which belonged to a famous hospital in Mangalore

    I am so sad for this mother died on the way to the hospital by bleeding.

    I remember the great actress Smitha Patil also was died of severe bleeding.

    We cannot blame entirely to the hospital and the doctors in this case. However from the hospital where she was asked to move should have given some life saving materials to the Ambulance.

    May she Rest In Peace and may God console the children and husband at this juncture of un-noticed death.

    I am not against having children It is their look out. Have children but it should not be an enjoyment of producing the children and blame the government for employment, water, electricity, food and shelter. Have children of your budget managing capacity.

    Those who say have 5 or more children will not provide you and look after your Children's welfare and their necessities.

    @Joseph G.Bannur,Dear Joseph,at present let us we should think and feel sorry for the sad demise of a Lady who left back three children.Not about some Family planning.It is everyones ground right to decide about their Family.Noone should blame them.Many times by multipregnency by delivery chances of danger increases depending on their health.Here they should have never sent a woman when bleeding out.It is too dangerous by delivery.when a delivery Station is functioning ,then their duty (govt.or private)to see that is with blood bank.of course sometimes nothing helps.They could have find out why she bleeds,in urgent case,even hysterectomy,is helping.Taking to Mangalore from A to Z takes time and this is loosing blood is like opened tape.At least blood Transfusion was arranged to her?My heartfelt sympathy to her Family specially children.may her Soul rest in peace.Every pregnant woman comes to delivery ,should be a blood Transfusion should be prearranged as a precaution.

    There is a Fr. Mullar hospital in Tumbe, near B.C. Road. I don't know why they simply rushed to Lady Goshen then to Govt., Hospital Mangalore. Perhaps they thought of lack of Money in hand.

    ANYBODY WILL HELP IN FINANCE FOR MEDICAL AID IN SUCH A PRECARIOUS CONDITION.

    Being a doctor is a family business. Just check more than 95% new doctors parents are doctors. Others cannot afford the money to be a Doctor. Government should open a medical collage at least for every District. Only 3 govt medical colleges in Karnataka. How can poor people become doctors?

    To become a doctor, you don't have to have a sharp brain...! If your father has 2 or 2.5 crores of black and white money, you can become a doctor...! And AND...as soon as you become a doctor, you will try to mint three crores more than the 2.5 crores your father spent on you from the poor and innocent patients....!. This is not your mistake or your fathers...! Its a wrong system followed and maintained for years by the rulers of our nation..
    The people who had the ability to become the doctors who would have saved my sister, Geetha today are working as accounts assistants, dentists, or sales representatives or excelled in other fields somewhere here....!

    My Systems Manager hails from UP and already has three daughters, applied for leave stating he wants paternity leave. Shocked I tried to convince him why does he want the fourth child. Very confidently he replied that only his son will lit his funeral pyre. Last week his wife delivered a healthy boy.

    We have fools passing MBBS with payment seats and later do 6 months course of midwifery and start practicing as Obstetrician & Gynecologist!
    Most of the excessive bleeding happens because the doctor wants to finish the job by pulling out the placenta, not giving enough time for the placental delivery. The placental remains in the uterus induce further bleeding. Only a few doctors here in Mangalore examine for placental remains inside the uterus after delivery, most just proceed to the next case!

    RIP. I urge the health ministry to have an advanced ambulances to save the life during transport. Lot of deaths are happening as there is no support systems in ambulances. Please look into this on a high priority basis.

    Many times complications arise during delivery but with expert hands their severity can be curtailed. However, I fathom her need to bear a fourth child.

    Well, its her family member's greed that has pushed her into this death. I sympathize with her surviving three little angles. I dread the cruel world in which they need to survive, continue a battle their mother could not win over.
