Belthangady: Post- election fights near Venur, complaints lodged

Beltangady, Feb 22: In a post-election fight between the workers of two political parties at Andinje near Venur, several people have been injured and admitted to hospital.

The fights took place between Congress and BJP workers on Sunday, February 21 after verbal exchanges the previous day.

Shashidar Hegde from Congress has complained to the police that Surendra Kotian Kokradi, Rajashekara Andinje, Ravi Poojary Payyottu, Jaya Poojary Savya, Ramprasad, Surendra with some unknown people used abusive words against him and attacked him. Shashidar Hegde has been admitted to Beltangady hospital.

In the meanwhile, Anil Hegde from BJP has complained to the police that he and his friends, Praveen, Dinesh and Abhilash were attacked by Rajesh Gandhinagara, Suryanarayana D K, Ashok Bhandary, Harish Poojary, Mohan Gowda and Shashidar Hegde, all from Congress.

On Saturday, Ani Hegde, Praveen, Dinesh Abhilash and Prashanth had verbal arguments with Harish Poojary and Rajesh from Congress regarding the distribution of liquor by them. But as the Congress workers went home, the problem ended. But later Anil Hegde complained to police that Shashidar Hegde was moving with a machete. Venur police who arrived pacified both the parties at midnight to end the quarrel.

The next day Anil Hegde complained to the police that Shashidar Hegde and his people stopped him and questioned about his complaint on machete and attacked him. Anil said the gang fled upon seeing some people coming their way.

Shashidar Hegde has complained that Anil Hegde’s gang attacked him while he was going to fetch a doctor to treat his sick cow. He also has been admitted to government hospital in Beltangady.
