Kuwait: Konkani Community to present Wilfy Nite on Apr 15

Media Release

Kuwait, Feb 22: Konkani Community Kuwait (KCK) is a group formed to unite all the Catholic Konkani people of four parishes in Kuwait. To strengthen the bond of unity KCK is organizing a mega Wilfy Nite Konkani musical show on April 15 at American International School, Maidan Hawally, Kuwait.

This will be a tribute to 'Konkan Kogull' the late Wilfy Rebimbus who has composed over 3,000 songs and has over 250 musical shows to his credit all over India, Middle East and Canada. It is well said, 'The King of Konkani music, Konkan Kogull Wilfy Rebimbus was not just an extraordinary musician but was a Konkani institution in himself'. It was he who gave new dimension to Konkani music and put Konkani music on a higher pedestal.

A six-member troupe will be flown in from Mangaluru including 'Konkan Myna' Meena Rebimbus, Veena Rebimbus, Vishwas Rebimbus, Babita Pinto, Joswin Pinto and compere beyond compare Leslie Rego who will be anchoring the whole show. They will be accompanied by renowned local singer - a singer loved and admired by all - the Golden Voice of Mangalore Rony D'Cunha and along with him the winners of Gulf Voice of Mangalore. The music will be accompanied by multi instrumentalist musician Adrian Gomes.

The show will also have hilarious comedy by local artistes and a variety of dances by talented dance groups.

The evening is sure to take music lovers down memory lane, promising wholesome entertainment for Wilfy’s fans who have been eagerly waiting to listen to his meaningful songs.

This event is particularly organized not only to entertain and rejuvenate the minds of the Konkani community residing in Kuwait but also to promote and support Konkani music, culture and language, bearing in mind the fast changes in lifestyle and mode of communication all over the world effecting Konkani language and culture.

The energy and enthusiasm with which the KCK members have been working selflessly, and the great response pouring in from all four corners of Kuwait is definitely bound to make this event a great success adding one more feather in KCK’s cap.

The Konkany community of Kuwait has always been magnanimous and 'forward looking'. Kuwait has always been on the forefront of many initiatives that have displayed their willingness to make so many things happen for the past seventy years or even more. Kuwait has even encouraged several decades ego in inviting our Karnatak Cricket Club from Bahrain to visit Ahmadi, free of charge. Kuwait had hosted our trip with the best of "dining and wining" hospitalities that we always remember with a grateful heart.

Promoting "Wilfy Nite" in Kuwait is not only a great tribute to the departed Konkany Icon but also render the best of motivation to his wife Meena and his son Viswas and daughter Veena along with their respective partners. Small and humble famialies they may be but they have lot of offer for our Community and our Society.

These kind of gestures go a long way in our cultural mission and our community dedications.

We wish the Konkany Community of Kuwait best of success in all their undertakings. We wish we could join you all in Kuwait. Our last trip to Kuwait was after the end of the War that Saddam created - which war has brought chain of animosities throughout the region and the sad impacts are still lingering.

Congratulations to all those that are instrumental in bringing Wilfy Nite alive in Kuwait. Let the Konkany language and Konkany talents prevail successfully all the time.
