Mangaluru: Shree Devi College national-level fest 'Sambhram' begins on high note

Mangaluru, Feb 23: The two-day national-level techinical and cultural fest Sambhram-2016 organized by Shree Devi Institute of Technology began on a high note at the college premises here on Tuesday February 23.

State minister for health and family welfare U T Khader inaugurated the fest by lighting the lamp.

In his inaugural address Khader said, "It is important to organize cultural activities along with education to improve students' personality and give them a platform to exhibit their talents.

"Our educational institutions provide plenty of opportunities for the students to grow. It is the attitude of the students that decides whether they make use of these opportunities or not.

"Along with the personality development, students must also have social concern. We must also work for others while building our own careers. This would help students achieve success in life," he said.

"In a student's life three quotients play an important role - emotional quotient, intelligence quotient and spiritual quotient. A student can be successful only if he takes care to develop all three quotients," he added.

Dr K Palakshappa, the principal of Bearys Institute of Technology said, "As engineers we need to adapt ourselves to the rapid changes. We have to keep practicing to perform better and become perfect. Unless we practice we cannot give our best.

"As engineers we create new things and become reason of development. Along with development we must take care of our environment. Only then can we be better human beings," he added.

Chairman of the Shree Devi Education Trust A Sadananda Shetty in his presidential address said, "Over a span of six years, Shree Devi 'Sambhram' fest has grown into a major tech fest for all students. This fest provides ample opportunities for students to exhibit their talents. We have given you the opportunity to exhibit your talents. I wish good luck to all the participants."

Principal of the college Dr Dilip Kumar welcomed the gathering while Raheela Reshma rendered the vote of thanks. Shilpa and Jason compered the programme. Secretary of Shree Devi Education Trust Nidhi S Shetty, vice-chairman of the Trust Maina S Shetty, trustee Priyanka N Shetty were present.

The events on the first day of the fest will be purely on technical aspects. For the computer science/information science students the competitions organized are paper presentation, programming and de-bugging, tech dumb charades, IT quiz and web designing. For the electronics engineering students the competitions organized are paper presentation, Techsurprice, circuit de-bugging, Matlab programming, RC Racing. For the civil engineering students the competitions organized are paper presentation, estimation and costing, centre line marketing, technical quiz and autocad drawing. For the aeronautical engineering students the competitions organized are paper presentation, RC Flying, Gliders and Sky Hopsters.

The special attraction of the first day is bike stunts show by team Zero Gravity and team FDC.

On day 2, the special attraction will be a rock concert by team Agam. Various cultural competitions will also be held on the second day.

    My hats off to Shree Devi College for organizing this national-level fest "SAMBHRAM' 2016. The students should take the best advantage as it is a technical and cultural fest conducted at national level Good luck and God bless. My thanks to Joshwa D'souza for the pictures.
