'Mangaluru central excise, service tax revenue to exceed Rs 11,000 cr'

Mangaluru, Feb 24: "In the last financial year, Mangaluru central excise and service tax commissionerate made a lot of achievements. It has recieved IS 15700 licence by bureau of Indian standards valid for the next three years. The commissionerate has collected central excise revenue of Rs 8,325 crore upto January, 2016 showing a humongous growth of about 127%, as against the national average of 52%," said commissioner of central excise & service tax, Mangaluru, Dr M Subramanyam.

He was speaking at the Central Excise Day celebrations held at Corporation Bank premises here on Wednesday February 24.

"The Mangaluru commissionerate has also collected service tax revenue of about Rs 563 crore, recording an increase of 30%. The total revenue mop up this year is expected to exceed Rs 11000 cr. Further concerted efforts taken by way of recovery of arrears, anti-evasion etc resulted in mobilising additional revenue of over Rs 31 cr," Subramanyam said.

He underscored that in line with the central government flagship programmes viz, Make in India and ease of doing business, several trade facilitation measures have been taken by way of automation and simplification of tax laws and procedures. Detailing such measures, he informed that registration is being granted in two days, tax payers service centres have been set up, tax payers could meet senior officers without any appointment, payment of arrears in installments, monetary limits to file appeals before various appellate authorities have been increased to reduce litigation, under the centralized web based and work flow based applications, several digital services are being provided like e-registration, e-filing, e-payment of duty, e-payment of rebate/refund, permitting digital signatures and preserving records in e-form and payment of refund electronically through authorized bank etc.

Stating that the grievance redressal mechanism has been further strengthened, he added that the complaints received are being attended to on priority and the grievances are being redressed expeditiously.

"Central excise plays a pivotal role in building the nation. I call upon all the tax buyers to discharge their duties regularly and on time, only then can they contribute to the country's growth," he added.

CMD of Corporation Bank J K Garg who inaugurated the event said in his address, "If we do good to others we get the same in return in one or the other way. The good deed we do for others is like a small seed. It soon grows into a large banyan tree and does good to the society.

"Today it is good to see the officials of the central excise & service tax department come together as a family with your near and dear ones. The way the central excise & service tax department coordinates with various other departments for nation's good is appreciable," he added.

Managing director of MRPL H Kumar said, "Since Independence central excise & service tax department has come a long way. Even though we have automated most of the processes there is a need to make use of the real time data management to flourish in the e-business.

"Organizations like central excise are required for bringing about corruption-free atmosphere. These organizations are doing a great job in contributing to the nation building."

Assistant commissioner of customs Udayashanka, joint commissioner of customs Sunder Raju and several higher officers from the central excise & service tax and customs departments were present.

    That is fantastic news. I hope this revenue achieved from Mangalore central excise and service tax will be used for the right cause. This customs department have been bringing good revenues from all over the country.
