Mangaluru: Konkani Academy awards announced, to be conferred by CM in Bhatkal

Mangaluru, Feb 28: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy has announced its annual awards for the year 2015. The awards have been announced in three categories, Honorary Awards, Book Awards and Yuva Puraskar (youth awards).

Ramachandra M Shet (Konkani language and literature), Kasargod Chinna (Konkani art) and Alu Peelu Marathi (Konkani folk) have been chosen for the Honorary Awards.

Om Ganesh Uppunda (for the translation of 'Bayila Bhade Bayila'), Rony Arun (for the research study book 'Tho'kanatullo Zuzari') and Fr Denis Castelino (for the collection of Konkani articles titled 'Dalit') have chosen for Book Awards.

The Yuva Puraskar-2015 will be conferred on Rajaram Prabhu (music), Nasrullah Askeri (sports) and Anjali Wilson Vaz (dance).

Also, S M Khalil, Pradeep G Pai and George Fernandes will be honoured with Special Recognition Awards for their achievements in their respective fields.

The Honorary Award comprises of cash prize, a shawl and citation while the Book Award carries a cash prize and a citation. There will be no cash prize for the Youth Award.

Chief minister Siddaramaiah will confer the annual Honorary Awards, Book Awards, Yuva Puraskar and Special Recognition Awards for the year 2015 on Sunday, March 6 at 5 pm in Nagayakshe Sabha Bhavan in Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada during the Konkani Utsav. Umashree, minister for Kannada and culture will be the chief guest, R V Deshpande, minister for higher education and tourism will be the guest of honour, Shankutala T Shetty parliamentary secretary, Kannada and culture and MP Ananth Kumar Hegde will be the special invitees. Mankal Vaidya will preside over the awards ceremony.

Traditional songs, folk dances of Konkani forefathers, duff dance, ghazal, drama and various other programmes will be performed during the function.

On March 6, a discussion session will be held with the awardees at 10.30 am. A grand procession will be held from Anjuman Ground to Nagayakshe Sabha Bhavan.

The two-day Utsav starts on March 5.
