Kasargod, Mar 2: Police team led by Dy SP M V Sukumaran on Wednesday March 2 arrested the main accused in connection to the seizure of 80 kg of ganja from a car two weeks ago.
The accused has been identified as Villy D'Souza (26), a resident of Manja Miyapadavu. He is a car driver by profession.
The Kasargod police had recovered 80 kg of ganja which was being transported in a Duster car on February 15 at Manjeshwar. The police chased the vehicle, but Villy and two others managed to escape in a getaway car, leaving the Duster behind. On inspecting the vehicle, the police found ganja filled in plastic packets.
Police had arrested his companion, Paivalike Baikatte's Gujari Hameed a week ago. He was arrested in connection with the theft of 1.2 kg of gold and Rs 4.36 lac cash from Thrissur’s jewellery transport agent Tony.
The police obtained information about ganja transport while interrogating Hameed. Based on the information, Villy was arrested.
It is learnt that the Duster car in which the ganja was being transported was a stolen one, and belongs to a Gulf-based businessman from Uppala. Sources said that Villy has admitted to his crime, and revealed that he was transporting ganja from Odisha to Kasargod.
Villy had earlier been arrested for transporting illicit liquor and was released after completing his jail term.
