Kundapur, Mar 3: Police have produced five suspects arrested with regard to ornaments thefts in Kollur Sri Mookambika temple to Kundapur court on Thursday, March 3.

Police have succeeded in taking prime suspect Shivarama Madiwala in their custody for additional investigation. The remaining four suspects, Gangadhar Hegde, Prasad Achar, Nagaraja Sherigar and Ganesh have been ordered for 15 days judicial custody and have been taken to Hiriadka jail.

Police have tried to extract more information with the help of principal suspect, Shivarama Madiwala. It is learnt that the police have recovered nearly Rs 30 lac worth jewellery from Muthoot Finance in Kundapur, Rs 20 lac worth gold each from DCC bank branches in Byndoor and Kollur and Rs 20 lac worth gold from Vandse C A bank.

The involvement of senior officials of the temple cannot be ruled out in the theft. It is said that the former executive official has not officially handed over the records yet. The suspects trying for anticipatory bail also has come to light. It is said that more than twenty people are involved in the thefts but legal hurdles have stopped the police from arresting and producing them in the court.

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) is likely to visit the Kollur temple and police station in the evening on Thursday, March 3 and that some suspected officials are likely to be suspended.

Kundapur, Mar 3: “Investigations are going on with regard to the theft in the temple. No ways culprits will be protected. Changes will be brought in the administration of the temple and emphasis will be laid on the security,” said De R Vishal the deputy commissioner of Udupi district during his visit to Kollur on Thursday, March 3.




He was speaking to the media.

“Superintendent of police is in charge of investigations. Action will be taken as per law. Guidance has been provided to the police department in this regard. If there is any lapse in temple administration, then strict action will be taken. We are waiting for proper records in this matter. We will address the problems in steps.” He added.

“Local administration has been told to address the problem of illegal]gal construction. For solid waste management, a vehicle and a road worth Rs 25 lac have been approved. A plan has been drafted with an outlay of Rs 99 crore for the development of Kollur which includes drainage, drinking water and dining facility at the temple. Land acquisition has been initiated for drainage. An expert team visited Kollur last week and they will send a report soon.” D C said.

    Superintendent of Police and his team have a lot of work to do in solving this case as many people from top to bottom are involved. I do not understand how banks and other financial institutions accepted these ornaments worth crores of rupees without any verification or supporting documents.

    I feel many peopel are involved in this crime. How did the gold they deposited in financial institutions were accepted? Did they ask for income PAN card etc.I feel many more may be involved it And I just wish every man who is involved this henious crime must be punished with life sentences No merecy should eb shown to them They do not desreve any mercy. Because people have pledged ornaments with devotion to God and it must remain with god

    I don't understand why people are decorating God with Diamond and Gold??? Do God need this??
    There are hundreds of people are suffering without food, shelter and medical assistance, why can't they give them money by selling these golds??? Janatha Seveye Janaardhana Seve. Aatleast God will be happy. Now no body is happy.

    Only educated class people indulge in frauds....
    Frauds in temple accounts is common everywhere....fraudsters have no fear of god or shyness to indulge in criminal activities. Present admn system of temples itself is real cause for occurrence of frauds in temple accounts.
