Mangaluru, Mar 6: The alumni meet of the St Aloysius Evening College, which is on the verge of celebrating its golden jubilee, was held in the main auditorium of the College here on Saturday March 5.
Senior civil judge and first class judicial magistrate Reshma Rodrigues, who is also an alumna of the Evening College, was the chief guest of the programme.
In her address Reshma Rodrigues said, "This college is solely responsible for all that I have achieved today. The education I received and the values inculcated by my teachers have played a crucial part in making me what I am today.
"As students we must grab all the opportunities we get. There are ample opportunities to showcase your talents today. The management and staff of the College have always been kind enough to give us the right platform to showcase our talents," she said.
Administrator of the college Fr Michael John said, "It is a matter of great joy to see so many alumni. This college has served all the communities of the city and has made great difference in the lives of many. This was the first evening college in the city. Many students of the college have made us proud. I congratulate you on this momentous occasion. The alumni of this college are our ambassadors and inspiration to many.
Rector of the St Aloysius Institutions Fr Denzil Lobo said, "The alumni of this College are spread all over the world. Jesuit institutions believe in producing men and women for others. Every year millions of students come out from the Jesuit institutions worldwide. Jesuit alumni have a special role to play in the society. Through value-based education we must work together to bring change in the world. We need to instill personal discipline in the lives of young people. Competency, consciousness, compassion, commitment must be the main values of our education for a better country and a better world."
Principal of the College Manohar V Serrao said, "It is an honour to be the principal of such an esteemed institution. As we are celebrating the golden jubilee, it is the right moment to introspect the path we have travelled. In these years the college has seen a variety of students. It is time to upgrade so that the benefit of the Evening College is extended to all the students. I recognise the support of the alumni association in all the programmes we have conducted. I invite all of you to the golden jubilee celebrations to be held on March 12."
Vinayak welcomed the gathering while Dr Donald rendered the vote of thanks.
Swathi Bhat and Roshan compered the program.
A cultural programme was also held after the formal function.
