Second PUC exams begin in state amid protest from lecturers

Bengaluru, Mar 11: Second PUC examinations have begun on Friday, March 11 throughout the state. Principals and lecturers of colleges have decided to protest peacefully demanding the abolition of discrimination in salary structure and the implementation of Kumar Nayak report. They will do their silent protest during their examination duties.

6,40,033 students are appearing for the examinations this year out of which 3, 29,187 are boys and 3, 10,846 are girls. The number has gone up by more than 27,000 compared to the previous year. Out of the total, 31,252 students are appearing as private students. 2,536 students have been barred from writing examinations this year due to shortage of attendance.

The examinations are held in 1032 centers. 155 centers have been marked as sensitive and 51 centers have been marked as extra sensitive. Every center is manned by police personnel and necessary measures have been taken for the smooth running of examinations. Video recorders have been installed in all places and movements of people within a radius of 200 meters from the centers have been restricted.

Examinations will be held between March 11 and March 28.

Principals and lecturers who are protesting during the examinations silently by wearing black bands have not specified the duration of their protest.

Students can phone the helpline 080-23083800/23361858 from 9 am to 9 pm during the duration of examinations including Sundays for any queries in relation to examinations.
