Karkal, Mar 13: A leopard used a ladder to come out from the well, to the surprise of villagers and forest officials. The incident was discovered on Saturday morning at Mudaru village near here.

It was reported to the forest officials on Friday morning that a leopard had fallen to a well. When they came, the leopard was seen sitting on the wall of the well where the mud had fallen off. The officials with the help of villagers tried their best to lift the leopard up from the well. But they failed till evening.
The officials decided to postpone the rescue operation to the next day early morning. They thought presence of big crowd also hampered their rescue operation which sent the leopard into panic.
When the forest officials with villagers came on Saturday morning, they were for a surprise. The leopard had used the ladder kept in the well and gone into the wild again.

The forest officials had left the ladder in the well as they needed it for the next day. They never expected the leopard to use the ladder.

When they could not spot the leopard at the place where it was sitting, they thought it had fallen into the water in the well. But that was not the case. It was obvious that the leopard used the ladder to come out from the well as fresh steps marks of the leopard could be spotted on the soil near the well.

The forest officials and villagers admired the intelligent leopard.

It is not yet known if there is any previous record of leopard using a ladder.
