Bantwal, Mar 15: The driver of a lorry laden with watermelons lost control and hit the bus stand, street light pole and seriously injured a man waiting in the bus stand before tumbling and falling beside the road at Talapady, B C Road on Tuesday afternoon, March 15.

The lorry which went out of control was driven to the extreme left of the road and hit the bus stand. Sathish, who was waiting in the bus stand, was seriously injured and was rushed to the hospital.

The bus stand was severely damaged in the accident. The electric light pole was broken and fallen due to the impact. After the accident, the driver and the conductor fled from the spot.

Bantwal traffic police inspector Chandrashekarayya and circle inspector Belliappa visited the place.

The lorry was lifted with a crane and the watermelons were scattered on the road. Locals were seen picking up the fruit and taking away.

As the driver and the conductor had fled, it was a watermelon feast for the local people.
