Bantwal, Mar 17: It is gathered that the locals, growing suspicious about a person based on his movements and possession of arms, handed over him to the police. Reportedly, the police have arrested two more persons on the basis of information collected from the arrested person, identified as Farooq (32), a native of Paivalike in Kasargod district, currently residing in a rented house in Kaniyoor, Kanyana near Vittal.

The people had seen a person moving about in a motor bike at night on Kanyana-Mangaluru road under circumstances which gave rise to suspicion about his motives. When the people got together to question him, the man, realizing that he would be grilled, escaped after leaving his motor bike behind. The people saw that the two-wheeler had weapons like sword, rod etc. They deflated the bike's tyres, and waited for the person's return.

When Farooq returned early morning the next day to take back his motor bike, the people caught him and handed him over to the police. The police had subjected him to questioning. It is said that after marrying a girl from Settibettu in Kanyana village, he had started staying at Kanyana. He was involved with several incidents of thefts and robberies in partnership with some local youngsters, it is said.

On the basis of information provided by him, the police have taken into custody two persons for their involvement with crimes along with Farooq. It is learnt that cash and several things stolen by them have been taken into possession. As per information, the accused was also involved with a case of theft which took place at a bar at Salethur junction a few months ago.

Yes I like it. In every village / town everyone knows everyone. So, if there is a newcomer he must be either sponsored (answerable to) by someone or he must be a suspicious element who should be questioned. Excellent job by Locals.

Good show. But I just don't want to see any message as "left on bail" in few days... which will usually happens in such cases.

This is what required by citizens ...Always inform Police of any suspicious movements of people when noticed and Police will take care of all that.
These are called alert\civilized citizens and not goondas\uncivilized like in so many other incidents....they need to improve\change.....from barbarism to civilized ways...
