Udupi: MLA Madhwaraj inaugurates post office ATM

Udupi, Mar 20: MLA Pramod Madhwaraj inaugurated Post Office Savings Bank ATM at Udupi head office here on Saturday, March 19.

After inaugurating the ATM, MLA Madhwaraj said, “Postal department is working honestly so far in providing services to its customers. Postal agents are working hard to increase the savings and modernization of bank. There is a need to focus on providing security to this sector.”

“If each department puts its effort like the postal department, there will not be any scope for corruption.”

Rajshekhar Bhat, superintendent, head post office Udupi said, “Governmental department should work as per the expectations of public. There are 1,55,000 post offices in the country. There are 64 post offices in Udupi, out of which 62 offices come under core banking system, remaining two branches Yermal and Pangala is yet to be covered.”

“The postal department is trying to bring all the facilities under one roof as part of IT modernization scheme.”

“There are 5,34,764 savings accounts and Rs 903 crores as deposit amount in the Udupi post office. Nearly 35,187 accounts have been opened under Sukhanya Samruddhi Yojana. Rs 27 crores of amount have been deposited in this scheme.” 

“The actual target of business post centre is Rs 250 crore. We have achieved Rs 206 crore in this financial year. Nearly 57,000 are policy holders. The department is planning to bring changes in the entire system like insurance, PLI, rural postal system and so on.”

“Internet and mobile banking, along with other services will be launched soon. At present only post office account holders can make use of this ATM. The concerned department is working on connecting nationalized banks to extend its service zone,” he added.
