Bengaluru, Mar 22: In a bid to allay apprehensions on the formation of an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday wrote to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Congress general secretary and in-charge of party’s affairs in Karnataka Digvijaya Singh on the necessity of the ACB to crackdown corruption in the State.

In the letter, copies of which were release to the press, the Chief Minister explained to the high command that the ACB existed in 12 states and the Congress has always been against corruption. 

He also dispatched copies of the Government Order on the ACB to Ms Gandhi, Singh and Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress leader in the Lok Sabha, sources in the party said.

However, it may be recalled that senior Congress leader and former Union Ministers S M Krishna as well as B Janardhana Poojary as well as former Lokayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde have publicly criticised the move along with the opposition BJP and JD(S) members by claiming that creation of ACB was an attempt to dilute the institution of Lokayukta.
