Bengaluru, Mar 28: Late night on Saturday March 26, robbers barged into two compartments of Hampi Express that was coming into the city through Andhra Pradesh, and relieved passengers of cash and ornaments before escaping under the cover of darkness.

The train was waiting for signal at a railway crossing after passing Anantpur railway station in Andhra Pradesh, when robbers gained entry into coaches S 1 and S 5. They snatched away bags containing cash and ornaments from several passengers. Two of these passengers registered a case after reaching here in the city railway police station.

Ravishankar from Koppal said that he and his wife were seated near the window in the S 4 coach of the said train, when robbers inserted hands through the window and tried to snatch away the Mangalya chain from the neck of his wife. As she woke up and held on to the chain tight, only 20 grams out of 40 grams chain got severed and reached the robber's hands, he stated.

The robbers who entered S 1 coach of the train took away a vanity bag, Rs 16,000 in cash, and 100 grams of gold ornaments on the body from Moti Rao, his wife, and mother, hailing from Gadag, as per the other complaint received by the railway police here.
