Udupi: Padukone team wins Alwyn memorial volleyball tournament

Udupi, Apr 4: Padukone Volleyball team won the Alwyn memorial ‘Allu trophy-2016’, the inter-parish floodlit volleyball tournament organized by Lancy Fernandes and family on Saturday, April 2, at Stella Maris Church, Kalmady Malpe road.

Fr Albun D’souza inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp and blessed the programme.











The programme organizer Lancy offered flowers to the portrait of his brother Alwyn.

Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj presided over the programme.

Paying tribute to late Alwyn, MLA Madhwaraj said, “Alwyn was very humble person. He stood out in his friends' circle. God gives less opportunity to these good human beings. If any programme was there in Kalmady church campus, he always welcomed me first.”

The newly elected Udupi City Municipality council president Meenakshi Madhava Bannanje was felicitated on the occasion.

The winning team received Rs 10,000 and trophy. Nakre Volleyball team was runner up and received Rs 6,000 with trophy. Brahmavar volleyball team bagged third prize with Rs 3,000 and trophy. Other significant performances got individual prizes.

In all, ten teams took part in the volleyball tournament.

Councillor Narayan Kundar, Kalmady ward, Ravikumar, Malpe Station SI, Shekhar Thingalaya, Fr Fedrik D’souza and others were present.

The event began with invocation by Zeeza and Zeshma.

Lancy welcomed the gathering and Lavina Fernandes delivered the vote of thanks.
