Mangaluru, Apr 6: As per the list of reservation criteria for the posts of the presidents and vice presidents of zilla panchayats announced on Tuesday April 5, the posts of both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi zilla panchayat presidents will go to scheduled caste. The posts of the vice presidents in both the zilla panchayats will go to woman candidate from general category.

In Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat, none of the male candidates from scheduled castes have been elected. As such, one of the two elected women candidates from this category, Sujata KP from Shirtady or Meenakshi Babu from Panaje will get elected as the president. In Udupi, the post will go to Dinkar, who was elected on BJP ticket from Udyavar constituency.

In Udupi, ten women elected from BJP have the chance to get elected as vice president. Out of 26 zilla panchayat seats here, BJP has 20 members, with the balance six going to the Congress.

As the post of the vice president in Dakshina Kannada has been reserved for woman candidate from general category, all 14 elected women candidates are eligible for the post. However, candidates with more experience is likely to get the nod.
