Griezmann one step closer to Forlan, Pruden's Atletico records

Madrid, April 11 (IANS): Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann is just one match away from equalising the records of the capital football club's former Uruguayan star Diego Forlan and the late Pruden Sanchez, who scored in eight consecutive La Liga matches for the Rojiblancos.

In 2009, Forlan ended the season by scoring 12 goals in the last eight games, and matched Sanchez's record achieved during the 1940-41 campaign (14 goals in eight games), reports Efe.

Griezmann is getting closer to the club's record, as he netted eight times during the last seven La Liga matches.

The Frenchman initiated his run last February 27, when he scored the winning goal for the Rojiblancos against Real Madrid at the Santiago Berbnabeu during the capital's derby.

He then scored against Real Sociedad (1), Valencia (1), Deportivo La Coruna (1), Sporting Gijon (1), Real Betis (2) and Espanyol (1) respectively.

Griezmann will have the chance to equalise the record next Saturday against Granada in week 33 of the competition, especially after he scored so far 27 goals for the Rojiblancos in all competitions this season, against 25 overall during the previous season.
