Udupi: Leopard claims life of cow in Parkala

Udupi, Apr 15: A leopard hunted down a cow in a residential area at Devinagara, Parkala near Manipal in the wee hours of Thursday April 14.

At around 3 am on Thursday, people living in first main road at Devinagara Parkala heard sound. Dogs in the area were heard barking uncontrollably at this time. They later found the half-eaten carcass of a cow near the gate of a house belonging to Shyamala Shetty on first main road, Devinagara.

The appearance of the leopard in an area frequented by people has sent shivers down the spine of the people of the area, many of whom move about the area even at night. A local, Ibrahim, informed gram panchayat member, Raveendra Kamath, about the incident, Along with locals, local leaders, forester, Ganapati, and police staff of 'Hoysala' mobile police squad, visited and inspected the spot. The forest department has set up traps for the leopard at various places but has not been successful in catching it so far.

    No protest by anybody?Noone knew about this theft and complained?Nowadays These leopards are harassing everywhere.They have nothing in forest,so come in the City where they find Dogs and cows.Infuture it will be difficult to control them.

    As per the new law killing cow n eating its meat in punishable by 7 years with Rs. 1 lakh fine..I request the makers of this law to get hold of leopard n put in jail for 7 years for killing n eating a cow....
