Kundapur: Welcome arch of Basrur temple inaugurated

Kundapur, Apr 21: "Religious faith keeps us alive even after our death. Greed can lead men away from their social responsibilities. We can get peace only with faith in the Almighty," said Puthige Math's Sugunendrateertha Swamiji.

He was speaking after inaugurating and blessing the newly-constructed welcome arch as part of Shree Mahalingeshwara Temple car festival. The occasion also marked the tenth anniversary of Basrur Rathabeedi Friends.

"Happiness and sorrow are part of life. These emotions are two faces of the same coin. Those who go searching for peace, find it. Sometimes we do not understand the difference between happiness and sorrow. Therefore, we, Indians always laugh regardless of hardships," he said.

Basrur Mahathobara temple managing trustee Basruru Appanna Hegde, who presided over the programme said that the temple has a very rich history of many years. "Basrur is always one step ahead in religious matters. The gesture of Rathabeedi Friends in dedicating the welcome arch is commendable. The group has been serving Lord Mahalingeshwara for the past 10 years," he said.

Dental lab and clinic proprietor Basruru Ganesh Padiyar and Sumithra Ganesh Padiar who have donated the welcome arch in memory of the late Basrur Manjunatha Padiyar were honoured by temple managing trustee Basrur Appanna Hegde and Sugunendratheerta Swamiji.

Kannada film child artiste Balanata was present for the programme. Bengaluru's businessman V K Mohan was also present.

Balkruru Vishnu Murthi temple trustees Sridhara Udupa, Government Pre-University College Kundapura Sanskrit lecturer Vidwan Madhava Adiga, Basruru Rathabeethi Friends tenth anniversary festival committee president Harish Padiar, honorary president Taluk panchayat member Ram Kishan Hegde Basruru, Rathabeethi Friends president Srikanth Kerekatte were present on the dais.

Honorary president Basruru Ram Kishan Hegde welcomed the guests and gave a key note address. Akshay Hegde Molahalli compered the programme.

Hundreds of devotees, band sets, Yakshagana troupes, drums and artistes in different costumes welcomed the guests.

A procession was held by temple priests, hundreds of devotees and guests till the temple after the inauguration.
