Kundapur, Apr 21: The department of revenue, with directions from the Tahsildar and Hangaluru gram panchayat, in a joint operation with police team on Wednesday, April 20 evicted 2.27 acres of encroached land under survey number 10/12 near Hunsekatte bridge in Hangaluru gram panchayat limits.

The encroachment had occurred near Kumbarakatte and Hunsekatte bridge of Hangaluru gram. The farmers, worried that the water may flow to their agricultural land as the encroachers had filled the stream line with mud, complained to the concerned officials.

Nagappayya Sheregar, a resident had illegally closed the stream line with mud. The villagers afraid that the water may flow towards their vegetation and may also enter their houses especially during the coming monsoons, requested the Tahsildar to get the mud on the stream line removed.

The village accountant and the revenue inspector in their report had stated that the land was meant for free flow of water and like a lake for a long time. Closing the stream with mud may cause artificial floods, they feared.

The land records under Survey No. 10/12, showed that 2.27 acres land belonged to Vidyarathna Theertha Swamy Krishnapura. 0.81 acres and 0.07 acres of land out of it was filled with mud.

Head of Krishnapur math had submitted the complaint on behalf of Vidyarathna Theertha Swamy. He had written that the land is left so that water may flow freely and it is not leased out to anybody. He requested the departments to vacate the land from encroachment.

Though there was opposition during the operation, it was completed under police protection.
