Mangaluru, Apr 29: Bajal area was backward hundred years ago and lacked basic facilities. Therefore, the people were deprived of education. Fr Bujoni of Rosario Church who realized it, started St Joseph's Primary School in 1917. As per the saying that a thousand mile journey starts with a small step, the school that started under a thatch roof then opened the world of literacy for the people.
The school has imparted valuable education to the students from Bajal,Jappinamogaru, Alape, Kankanady B, Padil and Jalligudde.
The school has held and proposed to hold the following programmes in 2016/17:
April 2016, Inauguration programme.
May 2016, Volleyball tournament.
June 2016, Health Camp.
July 2016, Dance Competition.
August 2016, Blood donation camp.
October 2016, Throw ball tournament.
November 2016, Shaledonji Gauji programme.
January 2017, Centenary celebrations programme.
The management committee, headmistress, teachers and old students have jointly proposed to hold several programmes in January, 2017 as part of Centenary celebrations. The inauguration of the centenary celebrations will be held in Bajal school premises on April 30.
The programme will be presided over by Monsignor Denis Moras Prabhu of Mangaluru diocese. Minister of forests and district in charge minister B Ramanath Rai will inaugurate the programme. MLC Ivan D' Souza, Captain Ganesh Karnik, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, Education officer M P Jnanesh, Catholic Education Board's Fr Jerald D' Souza, Mangaladevi Ramakrishna Math priest Jithakamananda, Muslim writers association's Janab Sayyid Ismail, Corporators Vijaya Kumar Shetty, Pravin Chandra Alva, J Surendra, Sumayya Ashraf and businessman Srikar Prabhu R will participate in the programme.
Teacher Mary Vas, due to retire after 37 years of service will be felicitated on the occasion. School children will perform cultural programme. Invited groups will conduct dance competitions. 'Bangar' comedy drama by Devadas Kapikad will be shown at the end of the programme.
