Puttur: Hit by lightning, lineman loses life

Puttur, May 5: A lineman attached to Kadaba unit of Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (Mescom) died after lightning struck him late night on Tuesday May 3. He was working to repair a transformer when his end came.

Vishwanath Naykodi (22), son of Annappa, native of Kundagooli in Sindhagi taluk, Vijayapura district, became victim of this incident. Vishwanath was engaged in the repair of a transformer that had turned faulty after getting damaged due to rain coupled with thunder and lightning which pounded the region on Tuesday evening.

Vishwanath, who had been recently appointed to the post, had joined for duties about five months ago.

Mescom Mangaluru circle superintending engineer, Sukumar, executive engineer from Puttur, Narayan Poojary, Kadaba Mescom unit officials, Suresh Kumar and Nagaraj, Kadaba police sub-inspector, Umesh Uppalike, and others visited the spot and undertook inspection and investigation.

A case was filed in this connection at Kadaba police station.
