Bantwal, May 9: The skeleton of a person, who had gone into the forest about ten months back before going missing, was found on Sunday May 8 at Vadwa in Alike village in the taluk.

The skeleton was identified as belonging to Manku (40), a resident of Kallurtiyadka in Kepu village. He used to weave baskets out of canes and vines. On July 11 last year, he had ventured into the forest to collect cane and vines for his work, but never returned.

After Manku's family searched in vain for him at various places including the houses of their close relatives, they had filed a complaint in Vittal police station.

A passer-by in the forest saw a skull inside the forest. A closer inspection revealed a full sized skeleton. Manku's wife, Sita, identified the remains as her husband's, on the basis of the clothes, umbrella, and the vines meant for weaving basket found at the spot. Vittal poice visited the spot and recorded the details.
