Bhatkal, May 9: The case pertaining to suicide attempt by a lover couple at Sherugarakeri on Saturday by hanging has undergone an interesting twist. In this case, the boy had survived, and is in hospital for treatment. Now, the parents of the girl have alleged that their daughter was murdered.

Father of the victim, Mallika, in a complaint filed in Murudeshwara rural police station on Sunday May 8, alleged that Arun Keshava Naik and his associates had visited his home when his daughter was alone on Saturday morning at around10.30 am, and convinced her to accompany them. "They then killed my daughter, and hanged her from a cashew tree in a thicket of cashew trees. Ravi Vishnu Bailoor, Pradeep Suresh Naik, Ganesh Krishna Naik, and Vidyadhar Venkatesh Naik, were partners in this crime," he said in his police complaint.

The girl's parents initially insisted that they would conduct the funeral only if the accused are arrested. However, the policemen convinced them to change their minds, after which the body was cremated on Sunday evening.

It may be recalled that the couple were found hanging from a cashew tree on Saturday morning. The girl had already died, whereas the youth, who had survived, tried to kill himself again by jumping into the sea. Even that attempt went waste as he was rescued by locals. He is being treated in hospital in serious condition.
