Udupi: Girl colleclting cockles drowns at Havanje

Udupi, May 10: A girl who was picking cockles in River Swarna at Havanje village in the taluk drowned on Monday May 9 evening.

The deceased has been identified as Alisha (15), daughter of Ambrose D'Souza and Monica couple from Muggeri village. Alisha had recently appeared for SSLC examination, and was waiting for the result.

Her younger sister, who was also with her in the task, also had drowned, but she was rescued. It is said that the tragedy occurred as water level in the river suddenly swelled.
