M'lore: Workshop on ‘Teaching, Learning, Evaluation’ Inaugurated

Mangalore, Oct 23: The two-day workshop on ‘Teaching-learning and evaluation’ was inaugurated at St Aloysius College on Monday October 22.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Abdul Rehman, former vice-chancellor, Kannur and Calicut universities said that the state is lagging behind in obtaining autonomy for educational institutions. Many institutes in Tamil Nadu have become autonomous, he added. 

He further said so far only four colleges have acquired autonomy under Mangalore University.

So far universities have been concentrating only on examinations, he said. The autonomous institutions must ensure internal quality in education, he informed.

He also said that universities must ensure that the students possess good communication skill.

He further said that NAAC accreditation will help teachers to figure out the positive and negative points in the system of teaching.

Fr Francis Serrao S J said that the teachers should always go beyond text books. This is one of the quality of good teachers, he added.

Prof Thangamuthu, former vice-chancellor, Bharadhidasan University (Tamil Nadu), Fr Swebert D’Silva, principal, St Aloysius College, Dr A Lourduswamy, coordinator, NAAC, Prof Ronald Pinto were present on the occasion.
