Udupi: Hit by police van, pedestrian loses life

Udupi, May 12: A pedestrian, who was knocked down by a police van on national highway 66 at Pangala near here on the night of Wednesday May 11, died on the spot.

The deceased happened to be Poovappa Putran, a native of Kaipunjal village. At around 7.45 pm on Wednesday, he was crossing the road near Pangala. As soon as he got down from the road divider in an effort to reach the other side, the van belonging to district reserve police moving towards the town from the direction of Mangaluru hit him hard, killing him instantly.

The pedestrian was killed on the spot. Kaup police rushed to the spot, registered a case, and took up further steps.
