Mangaluru, May 12: MLC Ivan D'Souza on Thursday, May 12 conducted a press meet at MCC office and informed that Congress government in the state will complete three years tomorrow on May 13.

Addressing the media persons, Ivan D'souza said, “Since there is severe drought in the district, we would not hold any big programme to inform about the various works and programmes undertaken by the party.”

“A small programme called Jana Mana will be held where chief minister Siddaramaiah would release a hand book on various programmes and schemes given by our government for the betterment of poor.”

“In the past three years, we have fulfilled about 98 promises out of 136 promises given in the manifesto. Out of which six promises were fulfilled in the first few hours of taking over charge. In the past three years, our government has implemented various schemes to strengthen the poor and underprivileged.”

“About 27 districts in the state are severely hit by drought at present. Whenever there is natural calamity, assistance in the form of grant by the centre is a normal practice. State had sought Rs 3,000 crore to tackle drought but centre has agreed to release only Rs 1,540 crore. There has been no reply for the request of Rs 12314 crore to manage the current drought crisis in the state. The money allocated for the whole nation under MNREGA scheme which is helpful for horticulture, agriculture and providing jobs is reduced by Rs 5000 crore as compared to last year. By doing all these, centre government has put the state in trouble.”

“With all these lapses, the BJP led central government leaders say that they will hand over a charge sheet on the performance of our government to the governor.”

Lambasting opposition leader Jagadesh Shetter for his use of unparliamentary language against the chief minister, Ivan said, “They should introspect before using such words. Shetter said that the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is a liar and leading a lavish life (Majavadi). Are you BJP leaders not cheaters? You should remember your former ministers Savadi, Palemar, Renukacharya and others, they were Majavadi.”

“Constructive criticism is always welcome but personal criticism is against the spirit of democracy,” he added.
