Karkala: Youth drowns in River Shambhavi when swimming

Karkala, May 16: In a tragic incident which occurred at Mundkoor near Belman in the taluk on Sunday May 15, a youth who had approached River Shambhavi there along with some friends for swimming met watery grave.

Pradeep (20), a student from Ulepady Guddesana, was the unfortunate victim of this incident. Pradeep, third son of Antappa Naik from Ulepady Guddesana,who had completed his diploma education through Nitte Education Trust, was in search of employment opportunities. He had ventured into the river for a swim with three of his friends.

His drowning came as a surprise as Pradeep was more skilled at swimming than his friends. Locals rushed to the spot, brought his body out of the river, and rushed him to the residence of a doctor at Mundkoor. However, the doctor found that he had died.

Station house officer of the rural police station in the town visited the spot and undertook investigation.

People recall that as if a matter coincidence, a student from Mundkoor Renjagutu had drowned in this river on May 15 last year.
