Mangaluru, May 17: Heavy rains have started pouring in almost all parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts as of Tuesday evening May 17.

As parts of Tamil Nadu continued to receive rains for the second day today, the MeT department in Chennai said the low pressure area over Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression and is likely to bring heavy rainfall in the next two days in coastal areas of the southern states.

"The low pressure over north Sri Lanka and adjoining areas of Gulf of Mannar and southwest Bay of Bengal has moved and intensified into depression and as of 8.30 hours today is located 240 kilometres South East of Chennai," Regional Meteorological Centre Director S Balachandran told reporters.

During the next 24-48 hours, the depression is expected to further intensify into a deep depression, he said asking fishermen not to venture out to sea.

Under its influence, heavy rainfall is likely over coasts of North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, South Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep. There would be heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours in many parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, he said.

Parched river will be happy and no more games on river bed.
If possible store some falling water (from roof tops) for future use. It reminds me of the good old times during rainy days.
Importantly it should rain in the Western Ghats to push water down in the rivers. Nethravati may be smiling with relief.

It's nice to have little more rain than little less rain. It nice to see our rivers, our water wells and our agricultural fields are filled with more water than less water.

It's nice to have everything in moderation but due to ever-changing climatic conditions, let us expand our farmlands, improve our vegetation and keep the place clean and green.

Let us create more new methods how to preserve our additional rain water thru additional tankage and additional resources so that the preserved water can be made to put for better use. We cannot and we should not allow our precious rain water to be channeled towards our ocean but preserve the surplus water thru various new technological innovations so that our hundreds of millions of people have sufficient water throughout the year.
