Udupi, May 18: Members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), along with the students of Industrial Training Institute, Udupi unit staged protest in front of DC’s office on Wednesday May 18 demanding proper code of conduct for ITI exam.
Addressing the students, Ranjith, president, all students unions said, “Students are frustrated by ITI education system. The poor students opt for these courses keeping their future goal in mind, but they come to know the reality of the education system only later. If students score zero in the exam, who will take the responsibility?”
“If the ITI students do not have proper marks cards, how can they attend interviews when they are called by ITI companies?” he questioned.
“The ITI education departments are gambling with students’ lives. In the previous year, as many as 50% students got zero in examination. This year 75% students were deprived of even an education centre. The concerned department must take immediate action over this issue.”
He also stressed on the elimination of semester system and requested the education department to adopt the annual system.
“The evaluators were said to have come for evaluation after consuming alcohol,” he further alleged.
“Question papers do not seem proper. Students do not even get a copy of the answer key and the department does not announce a re-evaluation date. This will create problems in future,” Ranjith added.
“If their demands are not heeded, then the district level protest will turn into a state wide protest,” he warned.
Speaking in the press meet, one of the students said, “There is no need for negative valuation. No proper examination centre has been set up so far. The concerned authority does not have enough information about the exam procedure. They have to ensure security at the exam centres.”
In total, eight ITI students took part in the protest.
