Bengaluru, May 21: State social welfare minister, Anjaneya, has clarified that when making scathing remarks about private educational institutions, he was speaking out of anguish he felt after parents of several hapless children narrated to him about hefty demand for donations being placed by private schools.

After Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, G Parameshwar, sought an explanation from him for saying that some private educational institutions are being run like brothels, the minister claimed that he had not used this word in respect of educational institutions. "My comments were not personal. Because of wrongdoings of some of the private educational institutions, the entire education sector is being looked down as guilty. On account of the negative attitude owned by some of the institutions, common people are being deprived of the right to get educated. Hurt by these developments, I had criticized these institutions," he said in his letter.

Speaking to media persons earlier in the dat at Vidhan Soudha, Anjaneya had termed the controversy on this issue as a closed chapter and that he would be writing to KPCC president about it.

The minister said that a number of Maths and other organizations have been doing appreciable work in the field of education, whereas some of the private educational institutions have adopted this sector as a money-spinning business. He hastened to add that this comment cannot be generalized and all the private institutions are not guilty of this crime. He asserted that he passed certain comments after getting to know that some of the schools were demanding donations from even students admitted under Right to Education quota.
