Kuwait: IMA holds public discourse on ‘Isra-wal M’iraj’

Media Release

Kuwait, May 21: Indian Muslim Association (IMA) under the patronage of the Grand Mosque, Ministry of Awqaf & Islamic Affairs organized public discourses on Al-Isra Wal M’iraj’ at Masjid Yousef Al Adsani, Kuwait City and at Urdu Khutbah Masjid, Fahaheel.

The functions started after the Isha prayers with the recitation of Holy Qur’an following its translation in Urdu language.

Islamic Scholars Shamvil Parvez and Sharfuddin Soofi delivered speeches on the subjects of ‘Miraj Al-Nabi (pbuh)’ and ‘Building Society in the Light of Quran’ respectively at the Fahaheel program. The program at Adsani Masjid in Kuwait City was addressed by renowned speakers Maulana Hafizur Rahman and Maulana Islam Qasmi on the similar subjects. The speakers meticulously explained various events surrounding Isra and Miraj. They stressed an urgent need of a society based on Quranic values.

The Israa and M’iraj refer to two parts of miraculous journey that Prophet Muhammad (SAS) took in one night from Makkah to Jerusalem and then an ascension to the heavens. Israa is an Arabic word referring to Prophet Muhammad's (pbuh) miraculous night journey from Makkah to Jerusalem - specifically, to the site of al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem - as referred in Surah Al-Israa in the Quran. The M’iraj, his ascension to heaven, follows it. According to some of the Hadith scholars this journey is taken place just over a year before Prophet Muhammad migrated from Makkah to Madina, on the 27th of Rajab.

The ayah 17:1 of the Holy Quran "Most glorified is the One who summoned His servant (Muhammad PBUH) during the night, from the Sacred Mosque to the farthest place of prostration, whose surrounding we have blessed, in order to show him from our signs. He is the Hearer, the Seer." This journey reminds us that Allah is capable of doing anything and is not bound by physical and material laws. Prophet (pbuh) is the only one who is worth following as he led all the prophets during the prayer on course of this journey. It is advised that Muslims shall be steadfast in their prayers as this was a gift of Allah to the prophet during this journey.

In the verses revealed after the event of Isra Wal Miraj, Quran in its 17th Chapter put forth fourteen point commandments for the formation of a beautiful and peaceful society. These commandments include formation of a society based on concept of oneness of God, respect for parents and senior citizens, care for poor and needy, control of extravagance, encouraging balanced expenditure, eradication of indecency and fornication, freedom from corruption and malpractice, nonexistence of superstations and blind belief and a society free from all kind of menace haunting human society such as killing of innocent people and making every decision based on materialistic gains.

The respective programs were convened by Mohammad Younus and Mushtaq Mehdi. The functions were attended by several hundred men, women & children. Dinner packets were distributed at the end.
