Mandya: Lady tries to abandon baby after delivering it in public place

Mandya, May 22: A lady, who tried to flee after abandoning her newborn baby was caught by some locals on Saturday May 21. The incident occurred at Malavalli town in the district.

The lady had delivered the baby by hiding behind the auto rickshaw stand in the town. She tried to make good her escape thereafter, but some locals who heard wails of the child, chased and caught hold of her. They then admitted the baby and its mother into the local government hospital for treatment.

Immediately after coming to know of the incident, women and child development officer, Arundhathi, rushed to the hospital, counselled with the lady and infused confidence in her.

However, the identity of the woman is yet to be established as she has been claiming herself to be Savita from Hareboovalli in Kanakapura taluk some times and as a resident of Gubbi in Tumakuru district on other occasions.
