Protest : State Police decide to take mass leave on June 4

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, May 26: Police personnel from across the state, who have decided to take mass leave on June 4 to pressurize the government to meet their long-pending demands, have begun the process of submitting their leave applications.

About 3,000 police personnel in Hassan district, who belong to district reserve, Karnataka state reserve police, civil police etc said they would be submitting applications en masse. The policemen, instead of taking to streets, have decided to seek recourse to this silent method of protest to drive home their demands.

Main grievances of police personnel are wage imparity as compared to neighbouring states, payment of Rs 200 when doing duty on weekly off instead of full day's pay, utilization of services of policemen for attending to house duties of IPS officers, harsh behaviour by higher officials etc.

Senior officials have no clue how to stop the policemen from proceeding on a day's leave. Many at the district level confessed to be under pressure from higher authorities to stop police personnel from taking this step.

In the meanwhile, state home minister, Dr G Parameshwar, said he has no information about this proposed protest. He felt that discipline happens to be the hallmark of police department, and hence it does not behove the police officials to seek recourse to protests.

My dad was a police at KSRP konaje. When he gets a call at midnight 2:00AM he Should wake up and pack his luggage and go to camp. Me and my brother used to get up and put all the necessary stuffs in duty carrying bag. Mom did not had any clue where he is heading towards what has happened. In 90's there weren't mobiles with my dad to make a call to Mom. Because if any emergency issue in sate KSRP were supposed to run to the location it might be a midnight or midday and safeguard the people there and they work 24/7 with out sleep. I remember dad used to say he was sleeping in between forest, schools without any accommodation and safeguarding the religious center also with whole night. Once he has bitten by the dog also. Harassment of higher officer beating out the police and making them run in the ground if there is any mistakes in hair cut or uniform. Pay was very low but to run a family job was necessary for Dad. He is my super hero. Now he is retired from the service. These are the small incident I m sharing but the life of police is very worst. Please Government should support the every police man of the Karnataka State Reserve Police.

It is about time that Policemen took this step. As a Citizen,100% support to them. Minister lives in Palace while the Policemen who protects these Minister lives in Pig House.
Here are few things I have observed which will make any Policeman to be angry.
    1. When a Police Senior Officer comes,Policemen stand up and Salute Him/Her. But instead of acknowledge the respect given to
them,Officer ignores most of the time, looks straight and walks away. This shows the ignorance on their part.
    2. Have anyone of You ever entered the quarters given to Policemen? Your Cattle even will not enter many of these Quarters. Doors are not closing, plumbing is mess, water is leaking inside when rains, plaster is falling of the ceiling,Cockroaches are all over, steps inside the building are broken and dangerous during night time.
3 Policemen have to pay rent to these Pig Houses. While High Officials and Ministers are provided free shelter with all the benefits.
    4. Have you ever seen the Rest Rooms in every Police Stations, including in Police Commissioners Office, next to Immigration Office. Take a Plastic Bag with you in case if you have to Vomit.
    5. Have you seen the Rural Police station in Maroli. Anytime it may collapse and death will be sure. Walls are separating. Old Rice Mill became Police Station and no Human will ever enter the Rest room of this station.
    6. Higher Officials bring these Policemen from other areas in case of Riot etc. But they provide far inferior quality shelter and food. All of them roll on the floor of shelter.
Public only looks bad points of Police. They do not look at good points. People know what is the effect of "NO Water No Life" So now on June 4th,2016 People of the state will know what will be safety without Policemen Protection.
All the success to every Policemen,
and remember Without Wind Ocean Waves will not happen. Police needs a Strong Union, like in other states. Good Luck to all of You.

Police personnel are working under various hardships (financial as well as job-related)/pulls & pressures.
They are not even able to take proper care of their health and families.

Since police personnel are bound by the tenets of discipline (not being permitted to protest, etc. for redressal of their grievances) it's the bounden duty of the Govt. to call their representatives for talks/discussions, take care of their genuine demands and settle the matter at the earliest, without any animosity/heartburn.

This would lead to a win-win situation for all concerned, i.e., The Govt., the Police Dept. as well as for the members of the public, leading to their (Police personnel's) better well-being & more effective policing and a better relationship between all.

The ask from the police personals are quite basic, Parity in salary, Extra pay while working on Weekly off, Excuse them from house duties, Self respect... I think the Government has to give in these basic needs. They should instill a sense of pride in the work they do. At the same time ensure corruption is unacceptable.
